Churches

SRE is a way your church can serve the community and you don’t even have to be a teacher! You can get involved no matter where you are or how big your church is.

SRE offers a unique partnership between local churches across NSW and the schools in their local community.

Many parents want their kids to learn about God in the same way they did: in Scripture (SRE) lessons at school. It’s an opportunity to speak into the spiritual lives of children and young people.

Approved Providers

SRE Teachers can only be authorised by churches that are Government-approved providers. Check out the List of Approved Providers.

Independent churches not on the list need to apply for Approved Provider status. Hunter SRE can guide and support your church through this process.

How can Churches help?

^

Pray

Yes, more teachers are always needed, but praying for schools, teachers, parents and students has an incredible impact and brings untold blessings. Each October, we focus on prayer and ask all churches to be praying specifically for SRE.
^

Donate

Consider including SRE in your annual budget, even if you don’t have any teachers at your church. Donations to Hunter SRE will help meet the costs of teacher training and promotional resources.

^

Promote SRE

We created an excellent short video that explains the how, what and why of SRE teaching from a personal perspective. (It even won a Silver award in a national video competition). Show the recruitment video in your church. You never know who might be interested!

Get the word out

Advertise specific vacant classes in the church bulletin or in your weekly e-newsletter.

^

Child Care

Consider offering child-minding for SRE teachers. Find out what days and times your local schools run SRE and offer to look after pre-schoolers for this period.
